Shake up your wardrobe – Bond style

We have said a lot about the importance of having the LBS – ‘The Little Black Suit’ in your wardrobe. But where do you go if you want to get something really ‘Snazzy’ for that special winter event? How about ‘Bonding’ it up?

I was one of the many that thought that, wardrobe-wise, Pierce Brosnan was the best James Bond. Sure, he had the Tuxedo that everyone re-incarnation has, but he had a frame that any clothing looked very good on. In 2014, the actor played the part of an ex-Secret Agent in ‘The November Man’, and his famous style sense was still in evidence – even as an older man. How about this very tasty grey suit?

It flatters Brosnan’s very cool complexion, though it brings out the grey in his partially-dyed hair. The two- button suit jacket is an update from the boxy, built-up jackets that Brosnan wore as Bond, with more shape and straight shoulders on the natural shoulder line, has balanced proportions and has a classic length that covers his rear. Like Brosnan’s Bond suit jackets, this jacket has roped sleeveheads, double vents and slanted hip pockets with a ticket pocket. There are four buttons on the sleeves, and the buttons are sewn in an overlapping “waterfall” style, a common method from Italian tailors. The jacket also has contrasting button in black plastic, which dress down the suit.

The suit trousers (and you’ll have to trust me, here) feature a flat front and a lower rise. He keeps them loose so he can stick a gun in his trouser waistband, and he wears the trousers with a black belt. Though black shirts (and other dark shirts) should not usually be worn with suits, he gets away with it because the suit is not a business suit but rather one that can be dressed up or down for social occasions. The shirt nicely contrasts with the suit in the same way a black necktie would, but without a tie a light-coloured shirt wouldn’t provide enough contrast with the light-coloured suit to balance Brosnan’s high-contrast winter complexion.

Worn with smart dress shoes that match the shirt, you have a great outfit that would look great at dressy events or more casual ones. Remember that Brosnan is 61 years old, so there is no excuse to have a ‘jazzy’ second suit that really shows you are ‘in charge’ – Just like Pierce Brosnan, You do need a Black Suit, but there is no reason to get a brown or blue one, because that is the next logical step. ‘Bond it up’ with a bright or electric look, and accessorise correctly.
